Learn how to buy unclaimed packages for $1 or really cheap! Expert tips on finding deals, avoiding scams, and making the most of mystery boxes for fun or resale.

How to Buy Unclaimed Packages

Have you seen the videos on TikTok of people scoring mystery boxes or buying unclaimed packages for just $1? It sounds too good to be true doesn't it?  But with the right approach, you can actually take advantage of these deals and have some fyn doing it!

I’ve tested different methods and stores myself. Today, I’ll show you how to buy unclaimed packages for $1, what to expect, and how to avoid wasting money.

What Are Unclaimed Packages?

Unclaimed packages are items that were lost, undeliverable, or never picked up from delivery carriers like UPS, USPS, FedEx, or Amazon. Instead of sending them back to the seller, these packages often end up at liquidation warehouses, salvage stores, or auction websites where they sell them at a HUGE discount!

Where Can You Find Unclaimed Packages?

Over the years, I’ve discovered several reliable spots to buy unclaimed packages without getting scammed.

Here are my top recommendations where you can find unclaimed packages for $1 (or really cheap!)

Ollie's Bargain Outlet

You’ve probably heard of Ollie's Bargain Outlet and their catchy tag line of “Good Stuff Cheap!” They now have 618 stores in 32 states and are growing in popularity.

Big Lots

Big Lots is also considered a retailer of liquidation merchandise. That’s why their prices are often a deeper discount than Walmart and Target.

Walmart Liquidation Auctions

Walmart liquidation Auctions is the official liquidation channel for Walmart.com and Walmart Stores.

Target Salvage Stores

Similar to Walmart Liquidation Stores, Target has salvage stores are retail stores like Goodwill and similar salvage shops that buy any excess Target store merchandise and returned items and sell them at severely discounted prices.

Amazon Bulk Liquidation

There is an entire storefront on Amazon called the Amazon Bulk Liquidation. There, you can pick up pallets of overstock and damage.

We don’t suggest buying unclaimed packages through Craigslist, Facebook swaps, or local meetups - it’s just too risky.

If you’re just curious and want to try a couple of these mystery packages for fun then go for it!. I’ll be honest though this route can be a gamble. You never really know what’s inside, and there are plenty of shady sellers out there.

From my own experience, it pays to be extra cautious. Also, you might see “unclaimed packages” at flea markets or swap meets. My advice? Don’t spend more than you’re comfortable losing :)

Here’s what I always keep in mind before buying from Craigslist and Facebook:

  • Check the seller’s ratings and reviews before you buy.
  • On Facebook Marketplace, confirm your order is covered by Purchase Protection.
  • On eBay, stick with sellers that qualify for the Money Back Guarantee.

My Personal Experience and How Much I Saved

Over the past year, I’ve visited several liquidation and salvage stores. On one trip, I scored:

  • A brand-new Shark vacuum filter set ($1, normally $25).
  • Two sealed phone chargers ($2 total, retail $40).
  • A mystery box with nothing but phone cases—useless for me, but I resold them for $15 on Facebook Marketplace.
