Dollar General penny items are products marked down to just $0.01. These items are usually getting discontinued, seasonal, or overstocked merchandise that Dollar General wants to clear from its inventory. Although these items aren’t advertised, they can still be scanned and purchased for a penny if they remain on the shelves. Employees are supposed to remove these items from the store when they get this list but you can usually grab a few before they get a chance to and they have to honor the price!
Tips for Finding Dollar General Penny Items
Below are my top tips for successfully finding these secret $0.01 items in store.
- Check Back Weekly: Bookmark this post and set a reminder to come back every week for a new list of penny items.
- Be Nice: Treat employees with respect and don't bother them asking where the items are located, they likely will not help you.
- Scan with the App: You can use the Dollar General app to scan the item's barcode, which is faster then matching the above upc yourself every time.
- Finding Penny Items: Penny items are sometimes right where you expect them to be, if my list says a certain cereal you should start by the cereals. But often you may find them in a different spot or behind other items - it's worth doing a little digging without making a mess.
- Don't Make a Mess: That's right, if you find yourself digging in the shelves looking for these items clean up and NEVER open inventory boxes that employees were in the process of already removing. Be discreet.
