Ask Angie: Overages and Moneymakers

Moneymaker deals and overages. What's the difference?

You're going to pay ME to take this out of the store? Well, ok then! Sometimes, we make money when we use coupons. The ideal situation is that a product costs less than the value of the coupon. So, who gets that money? In most case, YOU do!

There are two different wants to make a profit from coupons. Moneymaker deals and overages. What's the difference you ask? Here's a brief description of both:

What’s an overage? An overage is when a product costs less than the value of the coupon used to purchase.
  • Example, I buy some juice for $1.79 but I have a coupon for $2 off that juice. There is a $0.21 overage. Some stores will allow you to apply that overage to another product in the same transaction. Therefore making that product FREE with a $0.21 overage.

Pro Tip: Apply overages to products like meat or dairy products which don't usually have coupons.

What’s a moneymaker? A moneymaker is when you make or earn money on a particular deal. Sometimes we encounter moneymakers when using coupons with rebate apps or purchase rewards.
  • For example, I buy a bottle of body wash for $1.79. There is a $2 rebate on that product so I technically made $0.21 on that purchase. Boom! I  just made money on that deal!

Typically these deals are not very common, but when we do find them it's best to run and grab the deal!
